Meet Blaze and Comet

Blaze (8-years-old) and Comet (3-years-old) are a bonded pair of male Bengal cats.

Originally rescued in Colorado, they are two of the eight cats that we rescued from a hoarding situation in Colorado. Like the others, they were underweight, had URI’s and ear mites.

They spent their life living in such neglect, we’ve now spent over $2,124.14 to get these boys all the care they needed and back to good health.

They have had quite the journey coming to Utah and have been in an experienced and loving foster home since early August, where they worked to recover and be socialized. They are now at a good weight, they are extremely loving - thriving - and are looking for a forever home.

When Blaze arrived at our foster home, he had several health issues- most of which have been resolved and some that are still outstanding. He had a severe case of ear mites that took three rounds of treatments to clear, and had an antibiotic-resistant upper respiratory infection, which took over a month of antibiotic treatment to combat it.

Blaze was still experiencing nasal distress, so he next underwent a surgical nasal wash procedure, with the hopes that that would clear out the “yuckies” and help him recover from his URI. During the procedure, our Veterinarian found ear mites in his nasal passages (!!! That’s a new one for us !!!). Following the procedure, this condition is now resolved. Comet had ear mites as well and has also undergone treatment and he too is now in the clear.

Both Blaze and Comet are extremely bonded to each other. They snuggled with each other when they first came to live with their foster and have become independent as they adjusted to the new living environment. They are both extremely loving, don’t scratch the furniture, and get along really well with each other. Though there are times Comet can annoy Blaze (he’s got really high energy whereas Blaze is more low-key), they always find a way to work it out and are soon found snuggling together after any “misunderstandings”. They love to climb scratching posts, love to play with tunnels, lasers, feather toys, catnip kickers and other small toys. But what they love the most is human affection and attention.

Blaze is so very smart and he is extremely wise. He likes to run and climb, he LOVES to snuggle, and sleeps under the arm of the foster all night. To our surprise, he’s even slept snuggled up with our Foster’s grandkids (ages 9 and 14) when they stay over. Blaze also loves to curl up inside of a folded sleeping bag. He likes to be high to observe what is going on in the home, and because he lived in a home with at least 15 other cats, he somehow managed to navigate that crowded situation which is why we think he is able to get along with the other cats at his foster home.

Comet is young and has lots of energy. He runs, leaps and flies when he is playing. He loves darting through the tunnels. He is very curious, and he loves to give love, kisses, and head butts. Comet sleeps on or by the legs of our foster human at night. Comet doesn’t get along with the other cats in the house though - only Blaze. We believe this is because he’s a little bit socially awkward with cats he does not know. He trusts Blaze, so it works! Because Comet is so active, he can sometimes be too much for Blaze - but they do love each other and Blaze is really patient with him. Comet needs lots of individual play time to tire him out before bed.

We think they would do well in a house where they are the only pets, because they did come from a hoarding situation where resources were scarce (they lived on a diet of dry Friskies). We know they had to fight for the “basics” - thus the condition that they were in when we brought them into our rescue. We think too many other pets in their prior home has made them a little shy and protective of each other.

These boys are okay with older children, as long as their space is respected and the children have been taught proper petting techniques. They have not been around dogs so we do not think they would be open to that.

Blaze and Comet have extremely loving nature, however they will need a home that will be open and patient as they navigate their new environment. Because they have so much affection they want to share, they do want a home that is equally affectionate as they are. Overall they are very happy and well-adjusted cats.

Blaze and Comet have been neutered and microchipped and are up to date on vaccinations. They even have perfect litter box skills!
