Blackie's Story
Blackie: Loving, reiki-fanatic, inquisitive peek-a-boo cuddler

Blackie's story: I was a feral being fed in Leominster, MA for years by a family that look a liking to me, and make me a pet house and shelter outside. The kind woman who cared for me was actually afraid of cats, so she never touched me, but I knew she liked me.

I certainly had my share of trauma outside, but I am a survivor and have learned to readapt to my human population.

One day they decided I was too sick to be outside, and thought maybe too sick to continue on earth, and it may be time to cross the rainbow bridge, so they contacted Fitchburg Friends of Felines for Help.

After they talked about what my symptoms were, they were given hope that if they surrendered me and let the rescue try to heal me, I would make a great house cat.

I agreed. So did they!

Okay, I didn't exactly agree. They had to trap me. Then they figured out all my challenges, including a wound that did not want to heal, FIV, and diabetes. Those last two was preventing my wound from healing, so I was hospitalized.

And, that wound was of unknown origin, which means I had to be in quarantine for 4 months per MA regulation. Bummer.

And the rescue thinks out of the box. Because after a couple months of hospitalization and not healing, they asked the hospital if they could bring in a reiki master. They allowed it, and my reiki master and I became BFFs! And, I finally healed of that nasty leg wound!

I enjoy my quiet time with my reiki master, who I am probably BFFs with at this point. I absorb the affection from her and completely trust in the energy being received, and the love from her to me. She is also a great cuddle buddy and lets me hide my head in her arm during quiet moments together snuggling.

When she visits, I am usually hiding, but when I see her, I just need a few minutes to recognize her and then it is like old times. Luckily, she visits weekly, so old times is just a week ago.

I am a shy guy with strangers, but I appreciate those that come up to me gently, and I will warm up to you with time.

I am an inquisitive type. I am happy to explore new surroundings and although shy, I certainly appreciate the opportunity to get to explore.

My ideal home would be with a family that will hold space for me, being non-judgmental, and will allow me time to get to know them. I need a bit of space and time to get to know my new humans, and I will show you what a loving, sweet and super cuddle monster I truly am, with time, patience, and understanding.

Because once we get acquainted, it is cuddleville all the way!

Fitchburg Friends of Felines facilitates a foster to adopt program that places the intended adoptee with the potential adoptive family.
