AXEL ROSE's Story

Local Rockstar Seeking a "Quiet Riot"
Meet Axel Rose. He didn’t spend the '80s touring stadiums; he spent them (and recent months) surviving the Aliquippa streets with his crew, Aero (adopted) and Nani.

Axel’s big break came by total accident when he was "scouted" (trapped) by a lovely elderly couple. He’s traded the "Jungle" for the indoor life, and honestly? He’s ready to sign a long-term solo contract—as long as there aren't any pyrotechnics.

The Talent: Extremely sweet once he knows the "paparazzi" (you) aren't going to grab him and take him away.

The Entourage: He loves other cats! He’d be thrilled to join a band that already has a few members or would be totally fine as a solo artist.

Requires a quiet home, a soft bed, and a human who understands that even rockstars get a little stage fright.

Axel is currently shy at first, but he has major headliner potential. He just needs a patient roadie to help him find his voice in a calm environment.

Ready to give this Aliquippa legend his forever stage?

Are you tired of filling out the long applications? Did no one get back to you? If they did, was the cat was already adopted?

Email SOS at saveourstrays.pgh@gmail.com or call/text Faon(412) 863-0064 to arrange your visit.

We do things the way we want to here at Save Our Strays. I was told no to adopting a cat before, from a very big shelter, for a foolish reason. I know how you feel and all the extensive BS-some of those applications ask. It is almost like they don't want the cat to find a home. Facts: You cannot predict the future through a questionnaire. We are all adults; If you have another cat they need to be up to date on vaccines esp FVRCP (ask me) and combo tested for FeLV & FIV before you adopt. FIV is nothing but FeLV is sadly and those cats should be only kitties. Cats with FeLV look the same as any other cat, they can live many years and not become sick.

Since 2020, SOS has rescued and adopted more than 1,500 stray cats in the Pittsburgh area. Included in our adoption fee $100 is full vetting. All of our cats are dewormed, have received Capstar for any flea issues and NEXGUARD COMBO for any parasites, received two FVRCP vaccines as well as their rabies vaccine, are treated for ear mites (if needed), are combo tested for FeLV and FIV, and are microchipped which will transfer to you. Once the adult cats are fully vetted and vaccinated, they freely roam across two floors and (Pittsburgh weather permitting…) also spend time in an outside Catio to soak up the sunshine.

I will tell you all my same spiel I tell everyone else, if you adopt from us. Do not declaw your cat, if the cat is sick- have enough money to take them to the vet. If you ever need me, call me. We talk to you and ask questions ourselves and we know the cats well. If we think it is not going to work out, we will let you know. Everyone who is able and willing, deserves the companionship of a cat. It's an art that we have purfected here! Most of the cats are in the shelter, all in one place. We take you around to the different rooms and then you & yours can go and visit where you want too. Seems simple right? Well, it is! Bring your own carrier just encase you do pick a new BFF. All you have to do is schedule an appointment.

During your visit, feel free to spend time with the cat you want to meet, but also take a look around. We always have cats with a wide variety of ages, coat patterns/lengths, and personalities. High energy antics? You bet. Couch potatoes? Check. Sweet, purring snugglers? Roger that. And please don’t overlook the shy wallflower who keeps glancing your way—introverts need love too. Often times, a cat is simply overwhelmed with their new rescue
environment and will blossom in a calmer home environment.

SOS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our adoption fee, along with donations, allow us to tend to our rescued cats in the manner in which they deserve: fully vetted and fully cared for. We also allocate funds to continue TNR (trap, neuter, and release) efforts for all of the strays who are too unsocialized and human-adverse for an indoor home. By spaying/neutering, these
cats live a healthier life and no longer contribute to increasing the stray cat population.

When you adopt a cat from SOS, you’re doing more than giving a cat a good home. You’re also helping those stray cats who cannot be homed. One cat’s adoption improves multiple cats’ lives.

Email SOS at saveourstrays.pgh@gmail.com or call/text Faon(412) 863-0064 to arrange your visit.

Your new best friend is waiting for you

Save Our Strays, Inc's Adoption Policy
Please give your new pet TIME. It can take up to 3 weeks for even the most social cat to get used to their new home. Have one room set up for your new kitty, with limited spaces to hide. You can add a cardboard box and a blanket, for a guaranteed go to spot. DO NOT free feed your kitty. Feed 3 small meals (or two) a day and you bring in the food to them. Most cats LOVE canned cat food. So maybe half a canned and some quality dry food, is an good meal. Followed by some play time before or after, makes the new one very happy. You can add lysine powder or Forta Flora for additional nutrients. DO NOT DECLAW YOUR CAT. There are nail caps you can put on them(or have a vet do so) that work really well. They do not like them, but will get used to them. So use this as a last resort. Cats like to climb. Make sure you have enough “things” to entertain them. Take your cat to the vet at least once per year for checkups and vaccines. If your cat seems sick, injured, or is displaying behavioral issues- seek veterinary care IMMEDIATELY. Animal Friends has wellness appointments for $50 Always provide adequate food, water (at all times) and a clean litter box for your cat. Keep your cat inside. Cats that are allowed to roam outside can contract feline carried diseases. They can be seriously injured fighting with other cats, caught in a trap and get their ear tipped or worst of all be killed when hit by a car. Provide enrichment for your cat. Cats need to scratch, chase, hunt, hide, and play. Provide scratching posts, toys, boxes, play-time and other items designed for a cat will stimulate and entertain them while also helping to prevent unwanted behaviors. Never attempt to punish a cat. They will only learn to be fearful of you. Instead- redirect their attention with toys and play.
