Meet ASH

ASH was a Stray, living on the streets until he was rescued by a lady who started feeding and talking to him. It took about a month before he trusted her enough that she was able to trap him to bring him to the safety of the shelter. A handsome, dark grey boy, ASH has the most beautiful, unusually coloured milky green eyes with darker green around the pupils and flecks of gold. Who knows what those beautiful eyes have seen and endured.
When he arrived at the shelter, ASH was very afraid and did not want to interact much with anyone. Now that ASH has had time to settle, he is feeling more comfortable with his surroundings. We find ASH to be a very gentle soul who better responds to the people who talk quietly with him and let him have the lead on any contact. While petting him, soft talking and reassurance seems to help him feel comfortable with the interaction. He also likes short strokes on his head with a single finger. When Ash trusts you, he will touch noses and give you a slow blink. He is not a fan of being picked up or held. Either he's never had that kind of interaction, or he was held tightly against his will. He also is a larger cat, so unless a person knows how to hold a cat, being held may restrict his air flow causing the cat to panic.
ASH can be vocal, and he will come out for treats. As are many strays, ASH is motivated by food. When his room is allowed to play in the hall or the atrium, ASH will roam the hall and sit on the climbing ladder, where he does like a little attention by passer-byes.
No one knows ASH's beginning, or how he ended up on the streets, but he has made great strides in becoming more confident and trusting during his stay at the shelter. However, he still has a ways to go before he overcomes his fear of change. He shies away from a lot of noise and sudden movement, so would probably do best in a home with older children.
He does not engage much with his roommates, but he would be ok with another cat who is not aggressive.
With time, ASH will continue to gain confidence and will become the big, handsome sweetheart he is meant to be. ASH needs a home of his own, with a kind, patient family willing to allow him that time to acclimate to another new situation and become the loving companion we know he can be.
