Meet AMBER

Happy Spring! Kitten Season is here again and we need to make room to get Moms and kittens in and fixed! Please consider adopting- especially some of our older residents! Remember you save TWO cats lives and make countless more cats & kittens lives better by adopting! When you adopt one cat, it makes room to save another! Win! Win! The kitties thank you too!

We are hoping for a few miracles too! We are searching for experienced cat parents to adopt some of our kitties who have been at the shelter awhile and need more socialization and time to adjust to their new life- like Amber! If you think this is you and you're looking for a new kitty to add to the family read on!

This is Amber!
She's a domestic short haired tortoise shell (tortie) spayed female, up to date on her shots, around 3 years old and available for adoption to be an indoor ONLY cat from Griffith Animal Control/Treasured Friends Rescue in Highland Northwest Indiana.

Hi, I'm Amber!
I was living outside, in the cold, with my kitten last year. It was hard finding food and my kitten was always hungry. It would snow and be very cold but somehow we both survived. One day I went looking for food and luckily I found a nice human who started feeding me and my baby in a parking lot everyday. I was happy we had food but one day my kitten and I were all of a sudden in a trap! I was so scared but fortunately we were taken to the shelter. At first I wasn't really happy, but my kitten really needed to be warm and he finally was. My kitten was able to get a home, but I haven't yet. I'm still a little unsure and shy around humans. I like humans and I'll get close to them and sometimes pets are okay but I'm still convinced. I do love other kitties ALOT! I've never met a kitty I don't get a long with! I love to play and I'm used to this new indoor life! I think I need some one on one time with a human to develop a real bond. That's not possible at the shelter, since it's always different humans coming and going, but it would be in a real home. I need a human that will give me time to settle in with them and to be patient with me while I got used to my new life. I think if someone wanted to give me a chance, then I would trust them and I could let my guard down and be a kitty again!
I'm waiting for the right person who can give me that.
I am sweet with a little tortitude, but I promise to be a good friend and sweet companion and maybe even more someday!
I know I'm not a kitten anymore. I know I'll be passed over for being shy AND for being older but I'm still hoping someone is willing to give me a chance. I'm not shaming anyone that wants a kitten, I understand, but I still want to be loved and have a real home too!
I'm at the shelter now, so please come by to see me! I like kitties, so a home with another kitty (with the proper introduction) would be the best! Since I'm shy, your resident kitty will help me blossom into the kitty I want to be and show me humans are okay. I dont know if I would like dogs or kids. I think a quieter home would help me feel safe.

If you have some patience and are looking for a kitty that really needs a home, I hope you'll consider me! I'll always be there for you and will can be friends forever !! Please make an appointment to come and see me at the shelter!

Please call 219-922-1766 to meet Amber! Amber will not be a "normal" kitty as soon as you take her home. She will need time to adjust. Please consider this in your decision because it would set her back trusting humans to be returned. She needs someone who will really be there for her. If that is what you are looking for, please fill out an adoption application which can be found online at TreasuredFriendsRescue.org or follow the link from our profile at Petfinder!

****************************************
Griffith Animal Control, in partnership with Treasured Friends Animal Rescue believes in giving kitties that others wouldn't normally get a chance at getting a forever home, a chance! Our fosters & volunteers work with shy and/or unsocialized kitties everyday to get them used to being pet and to show them no one will hurt them. However, when they go to a new home, some kitties will require extra time to get used to new surroundings and different people. Please consider giving a kittie who might need a little time to get used to a new home, a chance. This is a serious commitment and it sets the kitties back in their level of trust if they are given up after a few weeks or months. Please, only apply if you are an experienced cat owner and have patience.
Thank you!
