Ailbert was in such poor condition when he first showed up at the Devore Shelter in late March 2023 that everyone thought he was on his 9th life. Finally ending up on the euth list with no takers, his situation looked grim.

Luckily, Kitty Devore Rescue has a soft spot, especially for forgotten seniors, and decided to take a chance on this emaciated little "old man." We estimated his age at the time of his rescue to be between 9 and 11 years old. Imagine our surprise when his labwork was unremarkable after a veterinary exam, indicating good liver/kidney function, negative for FIV/FeLV, and he'd already been neutered! Someone loved Ailbert at one point before his life took a harsh turn. We determined he'd experience a second chance at love again.

Although Ailbert had endured life on his own for a while, he hadn't forgotten the kindness of humans, the wonderful feeling of having enough to eat and being somewhere safe.
