Tye's Story

Tye came along with 6 parakeets, all in the same small cage. He clearly did not have enough space and was bounced around unsafely. His shoulder was dislocated. Our veterinarian wrapped his shoulder in the hopes of recovery but unfortunately that did not solve the problem and he wing was amputated. But he's a fighter and doing great. How can we give up on such an adorable little bird who has been determined to go on to a future good life! Thank goodness Tye has had a loving and generous foster home to see through this traumatic and expensive process.

This is another reason why birds should not be acquired from places that do not promote education about parrot care (space, stress, decent food, proper caging, etc.).

Tye is supposedly less than one year old, bought on impulse along with the parakeets at a box store. Let's try not to buy birds, especially at big stores, and definitely without doing our educational homework about parrot care first!

IMPORTANT PROCESS INFORMATION: Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption and education process. Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, but there are many other birds waiting for our help who are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots!

To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adopt

ONLY AREAS OF OPERATION: Phoenix Landing serves only Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northeast Florida. We do not ship birds. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for our online events. Parrots are unique and they deserve us to be informed caretakers. There are also many past event recordings available which you may find helpful. All event information can be found at www.phoenixlanding.org/events
