Rory and Shae Parrot Quaker Parakeet Alexander, NC

Rory and Shae are two Quakers who were brought to us by Zoo Knoxville, after they were turned in at an animal shelter in Tennessee. Quaker parakeets are illegal in Tennessee. We don't know their age, but have been DNA sexed and both are female.

They are the best of friends. They are a little shy, but Shae dances when you turn on music with a good beat and snap along with it. They both are starting to get used to taking treats from people. Rory will now come out of their cage on her own daily, and will gently take treats from hands of those she knows. She also returns to the cage on her own when dinner (a couple Nutriberries) are served! We don't know if they will ever want to be touched, but Rory, at least, shows interest in interacting! Especially for a yummy treat like a walnut.

They need a patient home who is happy to let them be birds, and let them go at their own pace in building trust with you. We have been offering them a variety of healthy foods to get them on a good diet, too. They are overweight, so may not be used to healthy eating and exercise. They are currently at the Phoenix Landing adoption center outside of Asheville, NC.
