You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Hatch Date: 2005

Male Bronze Winged Pionus DNA Confirmed

Peanut, also lovingly known as Murphy, is a 21 year old male Bronze Winged Pionus who originally came into our rescue in February 2023. He was adopted in May 2024 but was recently returned to us due to a change in his previous owners lifestyle. He has come back through no fault of his own.

Peanut has received consistent veterinary care over the years, including routine exams and bloodwork panels. At this time, there are no remarkable health concerns. For a 21 year old Pionus, he is doing exceptionally well and presents as a healthy, stable bird.

He is an extremely quiet companion, though you may occasionally hear a soft hello from him. Peanut is a capable flyer but generally prefers not to fly unless startled or spooked.

Peanut is not particularly fond of hands and fingers. However, he will step up onto a hand or forearm on his own terms when he feels comfortable. He is a bird that benefits from patience and respect of his boundaries.

His diet consists of Harrisons Adult Lifetime pellets, fresh chop, and a variety of fresh fruits. He especially enjoys fruit and will happily accept the occasional nut as a treat.

Peanut does not seek interaction with other birds and appears largely indifferent to their presence in the home. He has also been around dogs without issue, though as always, close supervision is strongly recommended.

Peanut is currently being fostered in Leonardo, New Jersey. He will only be adopted to applicants within driving distance, as multiple visits are required. We do not ship our birds.

For the Love of Birds operates through a network of dedicated foster homes across New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. We do not have a central facility. All of our birds live in private foster homes, and meetings are arranged by appointment only for approved applicants.

If you are interested in meeting Peanut, please review our adoption policies and procedures on our website at ftlob.rescuegroup.org and complete an adoption application.
