Little Girl's Story

Little Girl is a 14 year old female Poicephalus Brown-Necked parrot, similar to a Cape but with slightly different coloring. Poicephalus are known for their intelligence. They can have distinctive tones, the World Parrot Trust describes these as "long distance contact calls include a loud, raucous tzu-wee, zu-wee, zeu-wee, zz-keek, and a nasal zeek given continuously during flight.

She's been doing a great job with her healthy foods. She enjoys blueberries, sweet potato, cherries, peas, any cooked beans, brown rice, apple, and pumpkin for example. She eats Harrison's pellets as well. Walnuts, that's the trick for tricks!

She has become a great flier in her current Phoenix Landing home, so let's make sure she can still do that in her next home. Especially since she never had that opportunity before she came to us a few years ago, in a cage with only one perch, can you imagine?!?

Enrichment, did you say WOOD? Bring it on! But don't forget the birdie bagels, and a boing on which to do some toy destruction. Of course, some dancing and singing parties always appreciated.

IMPORTANT PROCESS INFORMATION: Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption and education process. Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, but there are many other birds waiting for our help who are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots!

To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adopt

ONLY AREAS OF OPERATION: Phoenix Landing serves only Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northeast Florida. We do not ship birds. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for our online events. Parrots are unique and they deserve us to be informed caretakers. There are also many past event recordings available which you may find helpful. All event information can be found at www.phoenixlanding.org/events

Phoenix Landing Foundation's Adoption Policy
Understanding the attributes of various parrot species is important. It is also essential to make sure that the personal connection between each individual parrot and the adopting family is just right. We want our families and birds to succeed for many years. The first step is to send an application, begin talking with us, and attend our educational seminars. Our goal is to help each parrot find stability and the best possible place to call home. We want to set you and a bird up for success, this is why in most cases we prefer to do a home visit. This usually happens after you join us for a class, and before a bird is placed.
