Harley's Story
Harley is a 26 year old male yellow-naped Amazon, he's very active and smart. Did you know that yellow-naped Amazons are endangered in the wild?

Amazons are very clear about who they like and who they don't. Clear communication is a good thing! This is natural, and we don't recommend fighting nature.

Part of this natural behavior is that some Amazons, most especially the males, may bond with one person or another bird. So others in the family may need to stay clear of their immediate, personal space. If you have not been accepted into their personal space, that's ok. Just honor this and appreciate their magic from a distance. This will help build trust too!

But if they do like you, they light up with animated joy and are fiercely loyal. In Harley's current adopting family, he decided to bond with one member of the family, and that is not working for the rest of the family right now. So we would like to make a new match for Harley.

Another helpful tip - birds may chose a male or female in one household. But that doesn't mean they prefer men or women. It just means they liked or disliked a certain person. We don't like to label them and restrict their future opportunities. We've seen birds come to us with these labels, and then chose a different human gender the next time! Give them choices!

IMPORTANT PROCESS INFORMATION: Before we can discuss a specific bird with you, we ask that you follow our adoption and education process. Some birds are in foster homes that may adopt them, but there are many other birds waiting for our help who are not yet posted in PetFinders. The adoption coordinator in your area will work with you to find the best home for each bird, and a species and personality that works best for your family. We want to set everyone up for success, especially our parrots!

To get started, the adoption process includes completing our parrot match application and attending one of our core classes. You can find information about this process on our website at www.phoenixlanding.org/adopt

ONLY AREAS OF OPERATION: Phoenix Landing serves only Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, North Carolina, and northeast Florida. We do not ship birds. However, everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us for our online events. Parrots are unique and they deserve us to be informed caretakers. There are also many past event recordings available which you may find helpful. All event information can be found at www.phoenixlanding.org/events
