Spike and Steven's Story

Introducing Spike & Steven!

Spike is the black-and-white Abyssinian in this adorable pair. He was rescued several months ago from the West Los Angeles shelter along with his brother. Both boys were extremely emaciated and very ill when they arrived, so we got them medical intervention right away. Both boys needed dental work, including tooth trims.

Unfortunately, Spike’s brother was simply too far gone, and despite our efforts, it became clear that we had to let him go. It was heartbreaking.

Since then, Spike has been on his own. We tried introducing him to several other single boys, including Hugo and Ernie. Spike was an absolute sweetheart, but unfortunately, the other boys weren't quite as welcoming! So Spike remained lonely and very much in need of a friend.

Over the weekend, we introduced Spike to one of the adorable baby boys who came to us through our friends at **Wee Companions in San Diego** — and it was a match!

Spike has never been happier and we couldn't be more thrilled to see him with a little friend of his own.

**Interested in adopting Spike & Steven?**
You can find our adoption application at **SoCalGuineaPigRescue.org**

**Please note:** Our minimum cage requirement for a pair of guinea pigs is **28" x 56" (or an equivalent or larger enclosure).** Guinea pigs need adequate space to exercise, explore, and live comfortably with their companion.

And as a little PSA: **Guinea pigs are not starter pets or pets for small children.** They are sensitive prey animals with specific care and housing needs, and they can remain skittish throughout their lives. They're best suited to homes with older, responsible children/teens or adults who understand their needs.

Learn more about guinea pig care, adoption, and our requirements at **SoCalGuineaPigRescue.org**.

#SouthernCaliforniaGuineaPigRescue #SoCalGuineaPigRescue #GuineaPigRescue #RescueGuineaPig #AdoptDontShop #GuineaPigAdoption #BondedGuineaPigs #GuineaPigBFF #GuineaPigsofInstagram #GuineaPigLove

Southern California Guinea Pig Rescue's Adoption Policy
Adopters must fill out an application (available online) and submit a photo or receipt of their cage so we can verify our minimum space requirements are met. After approval, arrangements are made for the adopter to meet the guinea pigs with an experienced volunteer to facilitate the introductions and answer any questions. If trying to pair a single guinea pig with a current pig, the application process is the same but the meeting process is a bit lengthier. The adopter can meet with several single guinea pigs to see which one may be a harmonious match. Initial introductions can last a couple hours and the adopter will go home and reintroduce the guinea pigs and monitor for signs of aggression. If the bond fails, the adopter must separate the guinea pigs and we will make arrangements to take the guinea pig back. Then we repeat until we find a good match.
