Sophie's Story
Hello from Sophie! You're looking at an estimated 3 year old female Chinchilla, and she is just lovely. While shy at first, she has started coming out of her shell beautifully. She will come right up to the door of her enclosure & welcome some hellos, and she will even allow a couple pats if you ask her nicely.

New to Chinchillas, or need a refresher on their care? Here are some tips:
Chinchilla diets consist mainly of about a tablespoon of high-quality pellets and a constant supply of hay. They can also have a small amount of fresh veggies as treats a few times a week. Chinchillas need a very specific kind of grooming: Dust Baths! They should be offered a dust bath once a day for about 20 minutes at a time. Dust baths can be purchased at most pet stores.

Chinchillas are very active, acrobatic animals, so multi-level, solid ground cages are best for them. They need a minimum size of 4’ x 4’ x 3’ for a single chinchilla, with enough room for water, food, enrichment, and houses.

Our shelter is open Tuesday-Sunday from 12-4 (closed Mondays). If you are interested in this pet, please review our adoption process at www.lowellhumanesociety.org/adoption/#process and email adopt@lowellhumanesociety.org to set up a time to meet this guy.
