Skipper the Degu's Story
Skipper the Degu
Skipper came to J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue on 6/20/26 at the Exotic Pet Surrender Event in Madison because his owner wanted him to have some company. He has now been with us for over three months and is still looking for the right home.

Skipper recently had a growth in his mouth surgically removed and biopsied. The results showed a peripheral giant cell granuloma, which is non-cancerous and is usually caused by inflammation or trauma.

Because abnormal cells extended to the edge of the removed tissue, there is a chance the growth could return. His future family will need to watch his mouth closely for regrowth and monitor for signs of dental problems. More extensive surgery or evaluation by a surgical specialist may be considered if needed.

Degus are social animals, so Skipper would love a home that understands their need for companionship and specialized care.

A huge thank you to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for sponsoring the Madison event that brought Skipper to us!

If you are interested, please see our website for more information.
