Orion-In foster's Story

Meet Orion, this handsome guinea pig is looking for a new home where he can get all the snuggles. He does well with being handled and picked up and would most likely do well with kids.

Here's what his foster mom had to say about him:
He is very friendly, does very well with people. Is easy to catch, likes to sit and be cuddled. He is very uninterested in doing anything in the cage - no running laps. He sleeps a lot. He expects food to be delivered to him and doesn't like to have to hunt for it. I suspect he's been kept in a small cage. I think he's older than 2 years old. He's healthy, but sedentary. I also suspect he's been a solo pig for a long time. A buddy might do him a lot of good, but I also think he'd be okay solo if he gets lots of attention and handling.

The guinea pig adoption fee is $35 (for a single, pair or trio).

As most of our small animals are in fostercare, if you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about this pet, the best way to start the process is to call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us at springfield@dakinhumane.org. If you already have a cage, please send a picture of your cage when you inquire.

We've made a video about how to set up guinea pigs for success! Check it out, above with the photos. Set your new guinea pig up for success!

Guinea pigs are incredibly social animals who need to be kept in pairs/groups to thrive. If there are two names listed together (eg Peanut Butter w/Jelly), that means that the two animals are a bonded pair of friends, and must be adopted together.

Housing requirements: Guinea pigs need horizontal (ground) space.
- 1-2 guinea pigs: 6.5 square feet cage, but more is better
- Three guinea pigs: 8 square feet, but more is better, especially if they are boys
- Expect to spend around $100 on guinea pig housing and supplies to prepare for your new pet.
- The least expensive and largest way to house your pigs well is by creating a C & C cage, which is a DIY creation!
