Mario & Luigi's Story

Introducing Mario & Luigi!

These two are very special boys with an incredible story.

Mario and Luigi were brought into a local shelter after they were found inside an abandoned car that was being towed. They were in a carrier with no food, no water, and only a crusty old lime. They were covered in their own urine and feces, extremely thin, and in terrible condition.

We don't know how long they had been there or whether someone had been coming back to feed them. What we do know is that they would not have survived if the tow truck driver hadn't discovered them.

Thankfully, they made it to the shelter, where one of our amazing volunteers, Rosie, immediately stepped up to foster them so we could get them to safety. Over the following weeks, these boys absolutely **thrived**. They put on weight, became happy and well-adjusted, and showed us just how resilient guinea pigs can be.

They've since moved into another one of our wonderful long-term foster homes, where they've continued to get all the TLC they deserve.

Now, after everything they've been through, Mario and Luigi are ready to find their forever home together.

**Interested in adopting Mario & Luigi?**
You can find our adoption application at **SoCalGuineaPigRescue.org**

**Please note:** Our minimum cage requirement for a pair of guinea pigs is **28" x 56" (or an equivalent or larger enclosure).** Guinea pigs need adequate space to exercise, explore, and live comfortably with their companion.

And as a little PSA: **Guinea pigs are not starter pets or pets for small children.** They are sensitive prey animals with specific care and housing needs, and they can remain skittish throughout their lives. They're best suited to homes with older, responsible children/teens or adults who understand their needs.

Learn more about guinea pig care, adoption, and our requirements at SoCalGuineaPigRescue.org

#SouthernCaliforniaGuineaPigRescue #SoCalGuineaPigRescue #GuineaPigRescue #RescueGuineaPig #AdoptDontShop #GuineaPigAdoption #BondedGuineaPigs #GuineaPigsofInstagram #GuineaPigLove #RescueStory

Southern California Guinea Pig Rescue's Adoption Policy
Adopters must fill out an application (available online) and submit a photo or receipt of their cage so we can verify our minimum space requirements are met. After approval, arrangements are made for the adopter to meet the guinea pigs with an experienced volunteer to facilitate the introductions and answer any questions. If trying to pair a single guinea pig with a current pig, the application process is the same but the meeting process is a bit lengthier. The adopter can meet with several single guinea pigs to see which one may be a harmonious match. Initial introductions can last a couple hours and the adopter will go home and reintroduce the guinea pigs and monitor for signs of aggression. If the bond fails, the adopter must separate the guinea pigs and we will make arrangements to take the guinea pig back. Then we repeat until we find a good match.
