Henrietta is a sweet little gerbil with a gentle personality. She was born in March 2024 and is looking for a quiet home where she can enjoy her golden years in comfort.<br/><br/>She enjoys gentle pets and is happy to spend time with her people, but she would much rather keep all four paws on the ground than be picked up. Henrietta has an old eye injury from an altercation with a former sibling that has left her with limited depth perception. She navigates her world well, but she'll do best in a home with adults or older, respectful children who understand her needs.<br/><br/>Because of her previous injury, we believe Henrietta would be happiest as a solo gerbil. She seems content having a habitat all to herself, complete with deep bedding to burrow in, tunnels to explore, and enrichment to keep her busy.<br/><br/>Gerbils have some unique housing requirements, and we're happy to help adopters create the perfect setup. Henrietta will need an enclosure with an absolute minimum of 600 square inches of solid floor space, though 800 square inches or more is strongly preferred. Gerbils do not do well in traditional wire cages—between their love of tunneling (which sends bedding flying everywhere) and their tendency to chew cage bars, wire habitats can create unnecessary messes and even dental problems. Large aquariums, custom bin cages, or Ikea Detolf shelf habitats make excellent homes.<br/><br/>She'll also need at least 6 inches of paper bedding so she can dig an extensive tunnel system, along with plenty of chew toys, hides, and enrichment. An 8-10 inch upright wheel or a flying saucer provides great exercise, but please note that we do not recommend exercise balls for gerbils. A high-quality gerbil diet and hay for nesting and nibbling are also essential.<br/><br/>Once you provide the right setup, gerbils are endlessly entertaining to watch. Seeing Henrietta dig elaborate tunnels, rearrange her habitat, and express her natural behaviors is one of the greatest joys of sharing your home with these fascinating little animals.<br/><br/>Henrietta's adoption fee is $10. Adopters must be at least 18 years old.
