Griffin & Pheonix's Story
This is a new one for us, we have a pair of male degus for adoption called Griffin and Phoenix. We believe they are between 5-6 months old. Griffin is black and white and Phoenix is brown and white. Both boys are very active with Griffin being the easier one to handle.

Degus look like large gerbils but are actually more similar to chinchillas. Degus live on average between 5-8 years, so they are a big commitment. They prefer a temperature between 65-75 F, not too hot. Degus are very social and do make a variety of noises to convey different messages.

Degus need large muti-level cages, like rats or ferrets that are chew proof. They are big chewers and need things in their cage to chew on. At the moment Griffin and Phoenix can be adopted in the cage they are currently living in, a critter nation cage for a total adoption fee (including both degus) of $150. The last photo shows a photo of the cage they are currently living in.

Griffin and Phoenix enjoy running on their large Niteangel wheel and make full use of their cage. They are awake during the day and eat degu food which is not usually found in pet stores but can be found online at Chewy or Amazon. Degus are herbivores so need timothy hay, vegetables along with pellets. They need to avoid any treats containing sugar because degus are prone to diabetes.

Some websites to check out before applying for Griffin and Phoenix are;
www.ladybirdanimalsanctuary.com
www.petmd.com/exotic/care/everything-you-need-know-about-caring-degus
www.burgesspetcare.com/blog/degus/the-ultimate-guide-to-happy-healthy-degus/
www.degutopia.co.uk

If you are interested in Griffon and Phoenix, they are being fostered near Allentown, PA. Degus can make fun pets, but like any pet, they do require some special care.
