Chia's Story

Chia is a lovable guinea pig with a big appetite and an even bigger personality. She's curious, sweet, and never misses an opportunity for treats or veggies. Chia enjoys relaxing in cozy hideouts, and making sure everyone knows when it's time for food. Her happy little wheeks and eager attitude make her impossible not to fall in love with.

Guinea pigs are incredibly social animals who thrive with the companionship of other guinea pigs! To keep them happy and healthy, we ask that they be adopted in pairs or groups. If you're already a guinea pig parent, a single guinea pig can join your family as a new friend for your current guinea pig family.

Elmbrook Humane Society's Adoption Policy
If you would like to adopt an animal in our care, the first step is to complete our adoption application. Applications can be filled out online or in person and are reviewed same-day (as long as they are received during business hours). We are open for viewing from 1-6pm every day*. While there is no appointment needed to walk through the shelter and view all of the animals, appointments will be required to meet and/or adopt. Appointments can be made same-day when available or scheduled up to a week in advance with an approved application. Operating by appointment allows us to provide the best possible care for the animals and service to you. We encourage all family members in the household to meet the adoptable animal prior to adoption (this may be required for certain animals). If you are adopting a dog and have another dog in your household, we encourage you bring in your dog to meet their potential new companion (this may be required for certain dogs). *The shelter is closed on holidays and the last day of every month. **Beginning in 2026, the shelter will be closed on the last Tuesday of every month.
