Cady, Gretchen & Janis (The Not So Mean Girls)'s Story

Fostered in Lowell, MA.

**Experienced Owner**

UPDATE 4/21/96:

The girls continue to be more comfortable and gain confidence over time.

Cady is still super shy and prefers not to be handled. She will take treats from my hands, but that is about it. Sometimes she just stays in the spaceship while everyone else is out of the cage.

Janis will gently chew on your fingers, not to cause injury or break skin. She comes running to the front of the cage when it is open, but prefers not to be picked up.

Gretchen is the most human-oriented, very sweet and handleable.

Cady Heron | White • Pink eyes • Dumbo ears
Cady came all the way from… okay, we don’t know her origin story, but she IS a little shy at first, just like her namesake navigating a new school. Give her some time and patience and she’ll come out of her shell. She just needs the right person to show her the ropes (and the treat bag).

Janis Ian | Black berkshire • Standard ears • White belly
Janis is the artsy, bold one — she has OPINIONS, and she is not afraid to express them, occasionally with her teeth. She’s a little nippy sometimes and needs a rat handler who appreciates a girl with some edge. She’s not mean, she’s misunderstood. A true icon.

Gretchen Wieners | Black berkshire • Dumbo ears • Smallest of the group
Gretchen is so fetch. Yes, we’re trying to make fetch happen. Gretchen is the tiniest of the squad and one of the friendliest — she’s always trying to be near you, near the other rats, near the snacks. Her loyalty knows no bounds. She just wants to be included.

The Not-So-Mean Girls are looking for a home together or in groups/pairs — rats are social creatures and separating the Plastics would be, frankly, tragic. Ideal adopters have rat experience (especially for Janis!), can provide a large cage, enrichment, and the kind of drama-free environment these girls truly deserve.

On Wednesdays, they eat whatever snacks you give them. Please give them snacks.
