Buggy's Story

Buggy and her sister Spring were found loose at Bug Spring Trail on Mt Lemmon along with 2 other guinea pigs, one who was already deceased at the time of rescue and another who was unable to be trapped. Spring and Bug are the lucky ones.

Adoption requirements for both are, they must stay together, adopter should know and understand proper guinea pig care or be willing to learn, everything they need to thrive has to be provided for life just like they are receiving while rehabilitating in the rescue. These are a cage which measures 12 sq ft or larger, layers of soft bedding like fleece to walk on, fleece tunnels, hides, and or other furnishings, unlimited hay served in an appropriate hay feeder inside a litter tray with appropriate substrate underneath, washed veggies and a bowl of high quality pellets every day, fresh filtered water in small bowl and a hanging water bottle daily with bowl switched out a few times day and night, and cage spot cleans throughout the day with at least one big clean every day.

Because we don't know the gender of the other 2 guinea pigs who were not captured, Both are on pregnancy watch and won't be available until that time is over which falls in December 2026, but because small animals should never be given as gifts, their availability will be in January 2027 plenty of time for our strict high standards for each adoption to be met. Home visits are mandatory prior to adoption approval. Adoption interviews will start with a phone conversation so when contacting, list out days/times you are available to make scheduling easier.

Home Sweet Hammy Home's Adoption Policy
Our adoption process begins with a phone or email conversation where we discuss previous pet experience and current hopes for potentially bringing a new little one home. Next, care education using documents, videos and credible websites to teach adopters how to provide a happy life for their new friend are sent. Once this is completed, we review and answer questions in a 2nd phone conversation and then an adoption application is emailed. Upon its return we begin verifying cage requirements are met. We also make these requirements available for purchase. We then set an adoption date and tour of the rescue.
