Betterave, Radis and Manioc's Story
Meet Betterave, Radis, and Manioc!! (case #21107, 21112, 21113)

Bonjour, mes petits amis! Direct from Montréal, Québec, please welcome Betterave, Radis & Manioc!

These three handsome messieurs have arrived with their French names, their fabulous whiskers, and a serious case of je ne sais quoi. Now, we know what you're thinking. “Rats? Cute? Affectionate? Surely, monsieur, you jest!”

Well... oui.

Rats may have one of the worst reputations in the animal kingdom. They're often called ugly, scary, dirty, or just plain ewww. But we're here to tell you that rats have been getting a très mauvaise réputation for far too long.

Because underneath those little whiskers are some seriously impressive brains.
They're incredibly intelligent. Rats can learn their names, solve problems, recognize people, and even learn tricks with positive reinforcement.

They're social butterflies. Rats love the company of other rats and thrive when they have friends to play, groom, explore, and nap with.

They're affectionate. Once they trust you, rats can be wonderfully interactive companions who enjoy climbing all over their humans, investigating everything, and sometimes settling in for a cuddle.

They're clean! Yes, really. Rats groom themselves and each other regularly. The whole “dirty rat” thing? Une calomnie! Their reputation is largely a case of mistaken identity.

And then there's our trio...

Betterave is our independent monsieur. Sometimes he'd rather hang back and do his own thing, quietly taking in the action. He's not antisocial, he just appreciates a little temps pour lui-même.

Radis & Manioc, meanwhile, are apparently auditioning for the role of World's Most Adorable Rat Cuddle Pile. These two absolutely love snuggling together and are happiest when they're side by side.

Together, they're a charming little trio with three very different personalities.
They'll need a loving home that understands rats are much more than “just cage pets.” They need companionship, daily interaction, enrichment, safe opportunities to explore, toys, appropriate nutrition, and plenty of attention.

And yes, they may never win France's Next Top Model. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, non? Give these boys a chance and you may discover that the animal you once thought was scary is actually smart, funny, affectionate, social, and downright delightful.

So come meet the Montréal boys. Betterave. Radis. Manioc. Three little rats. Three big personalities. Très intelligents. Très sociaux. Très charmants.

Et peut-être... très, très adoptables. Please complete an adoption request:

https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions

Adopters must provide their own enclosure and accessories.

Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families.

*Please note: we only adopt within Ontario
