Sapphire's Story
Adopt Sapphire!
Sapphire is a 10 year old lady, who acts like she’s a spring chicken. She chases bugs, not boys. Spends her time people watching or sleeping in her hut.
Sapphire came to us with a growth on the outside of her mouth. Shes received veterinary care, we’ve tried antibiotics and an anti inflammatory, but her growth is still there. It’s seemingly stopped growing, and just exists. With Sapphire being so old, we opted to not put her into the circumstances of a removal procedure, incase she didn’t make it through. The best way to feed her is: either by rubber tipped tongs from the opposite of her mouth, or by simply putting the insects in a bowl. We avoid feeding her on the side of her mouth with the growth, as it can get irritated, and sometimes bleed if she accidentally chomps down hard. The good news, is that this growth doesn’t seem to affect her every day activity or her quality of life. We don’t even know if she knows it’s there. With a high quality insect diet, her growth looks much better, cleaner, and hasn’t appeared to grow and further. If feeding time is done mindfully, her growth should not be affected or irritated. If you do accidentally feed her on the wrong side, or she takes a giant chomp and irritates her growth, don’t panic! She is fine, and the redness will go away within a few minutes.
While it’s something that doesn’t cause any current impact on her life, we always want to be transparent and share what’s gone into our decision to adopt her out, with her growth. We haven’t named her growth, but we encourage you to. Jennifer? Courtney? The list of name suggestions goes on!

Mindful feeding and a high quality diet is the most important thing for this little lady! Otherwise, she’s a rootin’ tootin’ gecko who is ready to adventure.

She is currently being fostered in Ocean County, NJ.

Please apply at wearsaves.org, or send any questions to wearsaves@gmail.com
