Lichen's Story
Meet Lichen!! (case #16150)

Lichen is a gentle female false map turtle with a shell beautifully dusted in moss, making her look like a tiny piece of the forest. It's part of what makes her so unique and impossible to forget.

Lichen wasn't born in the pond where she was found. False map turtles are a commonly kept pet species, and somehow she found herself on her own outdoors. While we'll never know exactly how she got there, we're grateful she has the chance to find a home where she'll be safe and cared for.

She is calm, curious, and happiest with a warm basking spot, clean water, and a little time to watch the world go by. Whether she's swimming gracefully through the water or stretching out under her heat lamp, Lichen is the kind of companion who brings a quiet sense of peace to any room or backyard.

Lichen can thrive in a properly designed, predator-safe, manmade backyard pond during the warmer months, provided it offers clean water, appropriate basking areas, and secure fencing if needed. However, because she is a pet turtle, she must be brought indoors before winter and should not be released into or housed in large natural ponds, lakes, or wetlands that are home to native turtle species. She'll do best with an adopter who understands her needs and is committed to providing a safe home year-round.

Like all false map turtles, Lichen requires UVB lighting and heat when housed indoors, a spacious aquatic setup, and a varied, nutritious diet. With proper care, she can be a wonderful companion for decades.

Lichen has already overcome an uncertain chapter in her life. Now all she needs is someone willing to give her the stable, loving home she deserves. If you're looking for a fascinating, peaceful companion and are ready for the commitment of caring for a turtle, Lichen may be waiting just for you.

Could Lichen's next chapter begin with you?
