Donatello's Story

Intake Date: 2/4/26
Available

Donatello is a 1.5 year old unsexed baby redfoot tortoise. He was surrendered by his owner with two other redfoots. These tortoises have been dewormed and all have great appetites. His adoption fee is $100.

Tortoises are high-maintenance pets. While this tortoise is easy to house as a baby, he will grow quickly and need a large indoor and outdoor enclosure. We require tortoise adopters to have plans ready for both types of enclosures - this means having a yard with at least a 10x10 (or equivalent size) area for an outdoor enclosure. For indoor housing, at least a 4x8 enclosure is recommended. Grow tents can work great for these guys in the winter as they require high humidity.

As a baby, Donatello will need at least a 40 gallon tank (with solid sides). He will grow quickly and will soon need a 4x2 or larger. Eventually, you will have to switch to a grow tent or homemade enclosure. Baby redfoots need HIGH humidity, so your enclosure will have to be modified for this. This tortoise will live for 80+ years, so please be prepared for a LIFETIME commitment!

PLEASE READ!
If you are interested in adopting this animal, you need to fill out an application at www.bewildnc.org/apply.
