Charlie Stinkpot's Story

Update DEC2007: Charlie was adopted by a family with lots of turtle experience, and his is basking and enjoying his new home. -------------. We have a 4" male, adult stinkpot, (musk) turtle, Sternotherus odoratus, for adoption. He would love a 40 gallon breeder tank to call home, although a 20 long will work for the short term. He is a full grown, hardy, turtle who will NOT outgrow a 40 gallon breeder tank. He's not a showy turtle, but he knows where the food comes from and he's a hardy eater. Care is similar to that of a red-eared slider, but musk turtles prefer shallow water and/or places to climb (they like to climb to the surface rather than swim to the surface). They need underwater hiding spots, and do best alone - they get nippy with other turtles. Most eat a variety of foods, including Reptomin or Mazuri pellets, insects, earthworms, fish, greens, and shredded veggies such as carrots, sweet potato and squashes. A care sheet can be found at http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/caresheet-stinkpot.htm -------------- Visit www.matts.petfinder.com if interested in adopting. E-mail matts_adoptions@hotmail.com to request an application and please include your city and state in the e-mail. --------- PA and NY residents - we cannot place native reptiles into your state. Shipping is possible if aodpters pay for shipping. We CANNOT ship him to TN or north of MD/NJ on the east coast.
