Chanel's Story
Meet Chanel 🐢✨

Chanel is a beautiful 4–6 year old female Sulcata tortoise with a shell full of character and a story of resilience. She measures about 8 inches and is still just a youngster in tortoise years — Sulcatas can live 70+ years, making her a true lifetime commitment.

Chanel was originally found as a stray in Tucson, Arizona and completed her legal stray hold and quarantine before coming into our care. Since arriving, she has been thriving and has shown us just how special she is.

Chanel does have pyramiding on her shell from her early years prior to rescue. Pyramiding occurs when young tortoises grow too quickly or without proper humidity, diet, or lighting. The good news is that with correct husbandry, pyramiding does not continue to worsen — and we have already stabilized her growth here. Her shell tells part of her story, but it does not impact her ability to live a healthy and full life moving forward.

Chanel will need:

• A large, secure outdoor space for grazing and exploring
• Indoor space for colder months
• Proper winter preparation, including a heated shelter setup
• A high-fiber grazing diet (grass and hay based)
• Appropriate UVB and heat support when needed
• An owner prepared for a decades-long commitment

Sulcatas grow very large — often 100+ pounds as adults — and require serious long-term planning. Chanel deserves a home that understands giant tortoise husbandry and is ready to grow with her.

She is sturdy, curious, and loves to explore in true Sulcata fashion. If you’re ready to commit to a prehistoric best friend and give Chanel the lifelong care she deserves, we would love to hear from you.

Ready Set Rescue
Any Animal, Any Condition, Anytime
