Blastoose's Story

This Russian tortoise is in Dickinson TX.

He was purchased at a pet store 12 years ago. The owner no longer has time for him. Blastoose is friendly and active.

In order to adopt a Mediterranean tortoise (Russian tortoises, Greek tortoises, and Hermann's tortoises) you must provide them an outdoor enclosure of 100 square feet or more where it can enjoy natural sunlight, dirt deep enough for burrowing in, lots of low plants and other hiding places, clean fresh water, and be able to graze on live vegetation in it's enclosure as if it were in the wild. Mediterraneans must be housed alone. They are known for fighting with any other tortoise. These tortoises are herbivores that should live outdoors year-round and will brumate (hibernate) during the winter.

If you submit photos of your small tortoise habitat then we will review your application, otherwise your application will expire in 30 days without being reviewed. One of the photos should include a piece of paper with your name on it or some other form of authentication in the same frame as the habitat. Pictures should be e-mailed to contact@texastortoiserescue.com (this is the only way to submit your photos - please don't text them to us or send them over Facebook). Habitat must include sturdy walls the tortoise cannot dig or climb out of, at least one hide, a water dish, and plenty of grass. Once your application has been reviewed and approved, I'll send you an e-mail that has a link to my calendar so that you can schedule the pick up at a time that is convenient for you. The adoption fee for this animal is $75, payable through the payable through the adoption link I will text you once you are approved. You can pay using the link any time before picking up the tortoise. You may pay cash at the time when you pick up the animal only at our Bandera, Pflugerville, and Bertram locations. Foster homes will not take cash.
