*Oliver and Hazel's Story

Meet Oliver & Hazel – A Bonded Lionhead Pair Looking for Their Forever Home!

Lionhead Rabbits | 11 Months Old | Neutered & Spayed | Bonded Pair

Oliver and Hazel are a loving, inseparable duo who are looking for a forever home where they can continue to thrive together. Both were born around Valentine’s Day, and their love for each other is just as sweet as their special bond.

Meet Oliver Wendell

Oliver was originally purchased from an expensive breeder but ended up in a difficult environment with dogs and poor nourishment. Rescued from that situation, he was initially shy but has truly blossomed since meeting Hazel. He is a petite boy with striking brown, tan, and cream fur, giving him a distinctive and handsome look. His foster family affectionately calls him "Mouse" because of his dark brown nose.

Oliver enjoys zoomies and binkies when he feels safe and keeps his area clean. He is litter box trained and takes treats gently from an outstretched hand. Though he doesn’t mind being petted, he is still learning to trust and is starting to appreciate gentle handling—especially when treats are involved. With the right patient and loving home, Oliver will continue to gain confidence.

Meet Hazel ("Two-Tall Hazel")

Hazel had a different start in life—originally purchased for a young child, she was later passed to another family with several children who adored her but didn’t know how to properly care for a house rabbit. Eventually, she was posted for rehoming, and Oliver’s foster parents welcomed her in.

Hazel is a stunning black-furred bunny with a slight brown/grey tweed pattern along her sides and a solid grey lionhead trim around her rear. She is larger in size and loves to stand up fully on her hind legs, showing off her tall, elegant ears—earning her the nickname "Two-Tall Hazel." She is incredibly friendly, follows her humans around for attention, and loves chin rubs and pets from her foster family.

Hazel has helped Oliver come out of his shell and become more comfortable with his surroundings. Like Oliver, she takes treats gently and enjoys lunchtime salads with her bonded mate. She is an affectionate, social rabbit who will seek out attention and bring warmth to any home.

Their Bond & Ideal Home

Oliver and Hazel do everything together—grooming, exploring, and sharing meals. They’ve recently discovered their love for treats like bananas, apples, blueberries, and raspberries. Because of their past experiences, they are not fond of kennels and currently free roam in their foster home. They will do best in a home where they can continue to have space and freedom, with someone present most of the time to give them the love and attention they deserve.

Adoption Details Neutered & spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped Currently being fostered in Louisa County and can be seen at Bunny Lu with a scheduled appointment

Oliver and Hazel have come so far in their journey and are ready for a family that will cherish and care for them properly. If you’re looking for a loving, playful, and devoted rabbit pair, these two will fill your home with joy!

INDOOR HOMES ONLY

Come Meet Our Bunnies...
Adoption appointments are available 7 days a week by appointment only.

Adopting from Bunny Lu...
We ask those interested in adopting from Bunny Lu to fill out the adoption form found at www.bunnylu.org/adoptions. Once approved, adoption appointments can be scheduled by texting or calling Mary Ellen at 703-753-0833 or emailing BunnyLuRabbitRescue@bunnylu.org. Please be sure to provide your name, address, and telephone number.

1. Bunny Lu will only adopt rabbits to responsible adults 18 years or older. If the rabbit is intended to be a pet for the entire family, all adults in the family must be on board with the adoption. These rules are in place for the wellbeing of the rabbits, which is our primary concern.

2. The bunnies must be kept indoors with a minimum of 4 feet by 6 feet of bunny-proofed space. This space needs to be in a location where the rabbits will receive daily interaction with their family. Rabbits are very social animals, so these daily interactions are extremely important.

3. Rabbits adopted from Bunny Lu must be picked up at the rescue in Waynesboro, VA. We will not ship any animal.

4. All bunnies adopted from Bunny Lu are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated against RHVD 2. The microchips are registered to Bunny Lu so that the rabbits can be returned here in the event anything should happen to their adoptive family or their home.

5. First-time or inexperienced prospective rabbit parents are required to read “A House Rabbit Primer” by Lucile C. Moore, which is available for $15 at Bunny Lu or on Amazon. We feel this is the best book available to explain what living with rabbits is really like so that you can make an educated decision if a rabbit is the right pet for you.

6. First time bunny parents should be looking at adult rabbits, preferably rabbits over 2 years of age. Baby bunnies or any under 1 year of age will not be adopted to first time bunny parents.

7. The adoption fee is $250.00 for each bunny. This includes the cost of the spay/neuter, microchipping, and vaccination. Please ask about adoption fees for pairs.

8. If you are looking for a companion for your bunny, they must be spayed/neutered in advance. We encourage you to bring your rabbit to the adoption appointment so that they can have a trial run at the bonding experience. Please keep in mind that it may be necessary to introduce your bunny to several different bunnies before the right match is found. In our experience, we have found that the most successful pairing is between a neutered male and a spayed female. While same sex buns can get along, it is unusual.

About Bunny Lu...
Bunny Lu is a 501c3 non-profit, all volunteer rabbit rescue founded in 1999 to help domestic rabbits find loving homes and lead happy and healthy lives through education of their human companions.

1. We offer bunny-sitting! Bun-Sitters relax in a large pen with furniture to enjoy. All bunnies get pellets and veggies twice a day, along with fresh hay & water, just like all the bunnies in the rescue. We have an entire room dedicated to the space for our bun-sitters! Please contact us if you need to set up a bunny-sitting appointment.

2. We also sell bunny supplies and food to keep your bunnies happy! This includes things such as Orchard/Timothy hay, Mazuri pellets, Selective Naturals treats, papaya, bunny furniture and much more! These can be purchased at the rescue in Waynesboro, VA.

3. Donations are always needed to provide a roof over the bunnies' heads, food in their tummies, and medical care to keep them living long, happy lives!
