Maru's Story

Maru is a beautiful, big bunny with a thick, soft, fluffy coat and long graceful limbs. She is a
classic rabbit beauty who is just as lovely to live with as she is to admire.
Maru prefers to take her time observing the world. She can startle easily and may hide when
something surprises her, but in a calm environment, her gentle nature quickly comes forward.
She is mellow, inquisitive, and quietly curious, especially when things feel safe and predictable.
Her fosters describe her as having "a peaceful energy." At first she may be reserved with new
people, but does accept pets when approached respectfully. In fact, many of her fosters say she
loves being petted. Once the petting starts she often stretches out and relaxes beside you,
sometimes staying for hours enjoying the attention.
Maru is wonderful with calm children. In one foster home, she would watch the kids doing
homework on the floor and hop over to investigate what they were doing. She even jumped onto
a five year old's back in what the foster described as "the most gentle and loving way." Moments
like that show how much she enjoys being near her people once she feels safe.
Maru truly blossoms when she has space, patience, and a mellow home. If she spends too long
confined, she may give a little stomp to remind everyone that exploration time is important to her
happiness. She loves cilantro and happily nibbles on sticks, chew toys, and pillows or blankets,
on occasion. This seems to come from excitement and curiosity rather than mischief.
Maru enjoys a predictable routine. In the mornings she likes to eat breakfast while observing the
household from her favorite corner. In the evenings she becomes more active and curious,
exploring her space and sometimes showing off a joyful little binky. She especially enjoys free
roam time once the household is awake and settled. She also makes an excellent relaxation
companion. One foster shared that she doesn't mind being lifted onto the couch in the evenings
to watch TV together. Curled up beside you, quietly accepting pets, she makes a perfect movie
night partner.
Maru is more than ready for a home of her own. She is looking for a patient family who
appreciates a gentle soul, enjoys quiet companionship, and is happy to let trust grow at Maru's
pace.
Maru is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated against RHDV2 (vaccine needs to be
administered annually). House Rabbit Society recommends all rabbits see a rabbit-savvy
veterinarian once a year.
Submit an adoption application for Maru at houserabbit.org. House Rabbit Society is located in
Richmond, California, just north of San Francisco. Questions? Email foster@houserabbit.org
and we'll be happy to talk more with you!
