Mark-In Foster's Story
Mark is a calm and gentle rabbit who came to us as part of a large group of bunnies and is now looking for a home of his own.

Here's what his foster has to say about him:
Mark is such a polite and curious boy. He is interested in everything going on, and loves to get to free roam and check everything out. When someone comes into the room, Mark will come up to them and say hi through the bars of his pen. He is more calm and low energy than most rabbits I've met, but he does still have that playful and mischievous side to him that all rabbits have. He is a very happy boy and makes the cutest little honks when he's running around. He loves playing with hanging enrichment toys. He is not nervous, and wants to be around you, however he is not a fan of being touched. It's possible with time he will, but he may just be a more independent rabbit in that regard. I do think he would really enjoy and benefit living with another bunny. He is a silly and adorable gentleman with a soft face and fuzzy paws. Mark is really just such a well rounded rabbit and his future owners will be very lucky.

Adoption fees for rabbits is $75 for a single or a pair, and include veterinary exam and spay/neuter.

As most of our small animals are in fostercare, if you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about this pet, the best way to start the process is to call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us at springfield@dakinhumane.org. If you already have a cage, please send a picture of your cage when you inquire.

We've made a video about how to set up rabbits for success! Check it out, above with the photos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoqIZchn2-g&t=1s {attach this link to the video part of the animals account}

Check out below for cage requirements and other information about Rabbits:

Rabbits typically live 8-10 years.

Housing requirements: Most housing sold at pet stores is too small for small pets. They are going to be spending most of their lives inside their cage; your housing must be as large as the below or larger (bigger is always better!) in order to adopt this pet.
-For rabbits we recommend x-pens/C&C type caging. Expect to spend around $100 on housing.
-Minimum requirements for enclosed spaces is 10 sq. ft. for 1-2 rabbits.
-No wire floors please - they are bad for bunnies' feet
- Check in with Dakin to see if there are any available housing options in their Thrift Shop!

Check out these great resources from the House Rabbit Society! Copy and paste into a browser window
Rabbit supply list - with links to learn more about what rabbits eat and how to house them
https://rabbit.org/rabbit-supply-list/
Rabbit FAQ - with info on everything you need to know about pet rabbits
https://rabbit.org/frequently-asked-questions/

Rabbits are a social species, meaning they usually enjoy the company of their own kind. If there are two names listed together (eg Peanut Butter w/Jelly), that means that the two animals are a bonded pair of friends, and must be adopted together.

-Got a single at home you're looking for a friend for? Any animal listed alone on our website is a single and a great candidate
-A new friend will need a separate cage until friendship has been established
-Our rabbits are all spayed/neutered at 4 months of age; as long as one or both rabbits are neutered, mixing genders is okay.
-It takes time and patience to let the rabbits make friends with each other.
