She was released to the wild to fend for herself. While she did okay with dating, we quickly learned something importantMariska is a solo queen. When housed near other rabbits, her litter box habits vanish. But when shes on her own (with humans around), her litter habits are spotlessshes the tidiest rabbit in the house!

Mariska is a gentle, sweet spirit who blossoms in the right environment. She thrives in quiet homesher current foster home includes two calm dogs (kept safely separated), and while she hears them, shes clearly not comfortable around them. If there are other animals in the home, we recommend no direct contact and lots of safety barriers. She hasnt been around cats, so we cant say how shed do.

She is a lovely work-from-home buddy, quietly lounging outside her bunny castle while her caregiver works. Mariska enjoys companionship on her own termsno head pets, please! Shell gently grunt and avoid you for a while if boundaries arent respected, but she will happily accept attention when she feels safe. She shows her trust with sweet little flops and happy dances at cookie timeher favorite part of the day.

Mariska is an all four feet on the ground kind of girl. She doesnt jump or climb, so her 24 pen works perfectly without a topper. She currently enjoys a spacious 4x10 foot living area and loves to explore. Her favorite enrichment includes chewables like willow sticks and rings, though shes not big on toys.

This brave girl has some physical limitations from her previous life. Her hop is a little flat-footed, and while she can periscope a bit, her mobility is otherwise good. She does require ear cleanings every two months at the vet, as she cannot clean them herself. Her fosterer (with over 25 years of experience) strongly recommends letting a professional do this, as Mariska is difficult to handle for care.

Mariskas trauma runs deep. When she is handled (which is only when absolutely necessary), she sometimes rolls onto her back and freezesan instinctive, heartbreaking sign of past fear. Her fosterer says, In over 25 years fostering 600800 rabbits, Ive never met a rabbit whos been through as much as Mariska.

What Mariska Needs:

* A calm, quiet home without other rabbits

* A loving, patient caregiver who respects her boundaries

* A spacious, secure setup for free roaming and exploration

* Someone willing to provide routine vet ear cleanings

* No handling unless necessaryshe thrives when left to feel safe on her terms

In return, youll gain the trust of a truly remarkable rabbit, one who has endured more than most, and still has love to give. When she flops near you or dances for treats, youll know she chose you.

If you believe your home might be the sanctuary Mariska deserves, please reach out. Lets help this beautiful, resilient bunny find the peace and love shes been waiting for.

Indiana House Rabbit Society's Adoption Policy
The IHRS has an adoption process that is followed for all standard adoptions. To complete the process you will take the following steps: 1. Complete this adoption questionnaire. Upon completion of the questionnaire, you will receive an email with some information and the next steps. 2. Review the email and the material provided to prepare the adoption consultation. 3. Once you have reviewed the information and replied to the email per the instructions, you will sign up for an adoption consultation either via the email you received or the screen you view after the submission of this questionnaire. **Note: failure to take this step will be considered as a withdrawal from the process. 4. Complete an adoption consultation conducted by an adoption coordinator. This takes about an hour. We use this interview for you to get to know us better, and for us to get to know you better, including your previous experience, knowledge of living with and caring for a house rabbit, and preferences to help us help you find the right match for your family. We want to make the adoption successful for you and your family so that we know we have found a forever home for our rabbit or rabbits. 5. Once approved as an adopter after the consultation, we will work with you to arrange a time to do a "meet and greet." 6. At the meet and greet, you will meet several rabbits that would be good candidates for you according to your preferences, living arrangements, and feedback based on the rabbits' foster care providers who know their personality traits best. Here, if you meet your companion or companions, you'll complete an adoption contract, pay the adoption fee according to your adoption arrangements, and take your new companion home to become a member of your family and change your life!
