Magpie's Story

Meet Magpie, a brilliantly bold, slightly dramatic leading lady who is ready to run your
household.

Magpie is confident and outgoing with a hint of diva. She approaches strangers and other pets
fearlessly and assumes everyone is there to admire her. She loves to sit near her favorite
people and quietly stare at them like a tiny supervisor making sure everything is up to standard.

She does not always want to be petted, but when she is in the mood, she becomes incredibly
cuddly. She will press herself against your side and expect a good, snug hug. Then, just as
suddenly, she may turn a little standoffish. Think cat energy in a bunny body.

When she is truly happy, Magpie flips dramatically onto her back, loudly grinds her teeth, and
smacks her lips in pure bliss. She is not very vocal unless you pick her up, but her body
language is huge and expressive. She makes it very clear what she wants. Even a first time
rabbit guardian will quickly learn her preferences.
Magpie is extremely food motivated. She comes running at the sound of a crinkling package
and will do just about anything for a biscuit. Fruits and treats are her love language. She may
drag her feet when it comes to healthy options and will sometimes wait to see if something
better is coming. She picks through her greens and hay with strong opinions, and she refuses to
eat spinach for reasons known only to her. Every morning she zooms to her pellets like she has
not eaten in months. She does need a human who can lovingly hold firm and make sure she
eats plenty of hay.

In her previous foster, Magpie has been partially free roaming and handles it beautifully. She
mostly enjoys lounging in her favorite spot, napping, and keeping an eye on household activity.

She is generally not destructive as long as she has plenty of sturdy toys. She is too big and
strong for most rabbit toys and prefers durable plastic and wooden toddler toys. If you give her
apple twigs, she eats them completely, like jerky sticks, leaving no trace. Make sure to have
plenty of chew toys on hand because she goes through them rather quickly.

Magpie is very opinionated about cleanliness. She keeps all pee and poop in her litter box and
will wake from a deep sleep to sprint across the apartment to use it. If her flooring gets too
messy with hay or hair, she will helpfully pull it up at the edges and pile it in a corner for you. If
her space is not clean, she will absolutely hold a grudge. If she sees you cleaning it, she rushes
over to offer enthusiastic approval.

Shoes are her favorite movable objects. She loves to pick them up, push them around, and
bulldoze everything in sight with her front paws. If she needs your attention for a biscuit or some
affection, she will make it known by knocking something over or dramatically grabbing a power
cable as if to say, "This is urgent."

Magpie will thrive in a home that appreciates a big, bossy, cat-like bun with a huge personality.
She loves people, enjoys being in charge, and wants plenty of attention on her terms. If you are
ready to be supervised, trained in her likes and dislikes, and adored by a confident queen of a
rabbit, Magpie is waiting to take her rightful place at the center of your world.

Magpie is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated against RHDV2 (vaccine needs to be
administered annually). House Rabbit Society recommends all rabbits see a rabbit-savvy
veterinarian once a year.

Submit an adoption application for Magpie at center.houserabbit.org. House Rabbit Society is
located in Richmond, California, just north of San Francisco. Questions? Email
foster@houserabbit.org and we'll be happy to talk more with you!
