Irene's Story

Irene is a 1.5-year-old spayed Giant Flemish girl with a tender heart and a deeply devoted spirit. She was lovingly raised by her elderly human mom from the time she was just a baby and lived by her side 24/7 until her owner's recent passing. Their bond was incredibly close, and Irene is used to being a constant companion and cherished member of a very quiet, peaceful home with just one devoted owner.

She has never lived in a cage and thrives when she can freely explore her home and remain near her people. Irene is fully litter box trained and accustomed to using paper bedding. She has zero behavioral issues and a beautifully calm demeanor. She would do best in an adult-only home, or a home with older, respectful children who understand boundaries and can help maintain a peaceful environment. She prefers being with her humans and would flourish in a setting where someone is home most of the day.

Irene has a sweet, gentle nature and enjoys sitting beside her foster mom, soaking up soft pets and affection. Aside from snuggles, her favorite activity is doing joyful binkies in the yard. She absolutely loves her supervised outdoor playtime, as well as calmly exploring indoors and being part of the daily rhythm of the home.

She loves her Timothy hay and eagerly enjoys fresh greens - her current favorites are cilantro, kale, and romaine.

Irene will make an exceptional, loyal companion for someone seeking a serene and devoted presence. Although she has never lived with other animals, we believe she could be a wonderful candidate for bonding with another bunny over time with proper, patient introductions.

-----
Our rabbits live in private foster homes—please contact us to make an appointment to visit!

Think this rabbit may be a good fit for your single bun? Southwest Florida House Rabbit Rescue's Adoption Policy
We will ask you to fill out an adoption application and have an initial phone interview. We will then set up a time for you to meet some rabbits that might be a good fit for your family, home, and lifestyle. We will request photos of the space within your home where the rabbit will reside and arrange for a short home visit where one of our volunteers will provide a Bunny 101 training. This sets you up for success with your new rabbit friend! Rabbits are not a low maintenance pet and require a 10-14 year commitment. When given the proper environment, they are quiet, fun, and very loving. They make great companions! You'll notice most of our rabbits are adopted as bonded pairs. Rabbits are highly social and need companionship to keep them healthy and from getting lonely. As human companions, we can only offer them so much. We find having two rabbits is not any more work than one and they are tons of fun to watch together as well! Our adoption fee is $100 for a single or $150 for a bonded pair. All our rabbits are spayed/neutered and litter box trained. Our rescue does not have a main shelter and instead operates out of a network of foster homes throughout Southwest Florida. We can arrange a day for you to visit one of our homes to meet several rabbits of interest to you.
