Our Mission

Being a Good Neighbor
GNAR is here to support the good Samaritans who care for our community’s homeless pets. We serve as a point of contact and referral for animal-loving neighbors to help each other care for and find permanent, loving homes for animals in need.
How are we different from other animal welfare groups?
Our mission is to keep animals out of overpopulated shelters - we don’t rescue animals from shelters ~ we prevent them from ending up there. We serve those who need to rehome their own pets or who have found and taken in a stray.
GNAR’s all-volunteer members arrange spay, neutering, vaccinations for all fostered animals, and other medical needs as required, such as heartworm treatment, and in some cases surgery for injured animals. GNAR adoption fees cover only a fraction of these costs; the balance is made up by our generous donors. GNAR also helps coordinate TNR – Trap, Neuter, Release – for feral cat colonies, which over time decreases the number of strays in need of adoption, while enabling unadoptable cats to live out their lives in the location where they feel secure.

Adoption Policy

All GNAR pets are neutered or spayed, fully vaccinated, tested, treated and on prevention for parasites. GNAR only adopts out fully-vetted pets. This means that all pets have received GNAR's required set of basic medical care needed to become adoptable. GNAR is foster home-based, meaning we don't have a facility for visiting animals, but foster pets are kept and socialized in a home setting. This keeps our overhead to a minimum and makes our adoption processes more personal as every foster home knows their foster pets well. Visits are available by Video chat with the foster home. Email us at GNARAnimalRescue@gmail.com and we will get you in direct contact with the foster home. Adoptions require an application and adoption fee, starting at $85 for cats and $250 for dogs. It takes about 2 days to complete the application screening process, from initial contact inquiry to pick up of the pet. All adoptions are conducted at a local Petsmart store and registered with Petsmart Charities. Adopters receive a large book of coupons for pet supplies including free services with Banfield, grooming, training, boarding and other Petsmart offers.
