Our Mission

At the Humane Center of Tioga County, our vision extends beyond immediate support and care. We strive to build a community of people and organizations working together to save today’s, and prevent tomorrow’s, abused, neglected, and homeless animals. By providing a safe haven, we aim to create a humane community that promotes compassion and humane treatment for all animals. We believe that by fostering collaboration and understanding, we can make lasting changes. Our programs are designed not only to address immediate needs but also to educate and empower the community to take proactive steps in animal welfare. Through partnerships, outreach, and advocacy, we work tirelessly to ensure that every animal receives the care and respect they deserve.

Adoption Policy

Our adoption policies are designed to ensure safe, responsible, and lasting placements for every animal. Potential adopters must complete an adoption application that is reviewed by our team. We evaluate lifestyle, housing stability, veterinary history (when applicable), and overall fit for the specific animal. Landlord approval is required for renters, and we verify that existing pets are up to date on core vaccinations and sterilization unless medically exempt. We prioritize best-match placements over first-come, first-served. Meet-and-greets are required for dogs and recommended for all household members and resident dogs. Some animals may require fenced yards, experienced handlers, or specific home environments based on behavior or medical needs. All adopted pets are spayed/neutered (or adopted under a signed spay/neuter agreement for age-appropriate juveniles), vaccinated, and microchipped prior to finalization.
