MORE ABOUT US
Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue is one of the nation’s largest foster based animal rescue organizations, with major bases of operation in both Ohio and New York City, serving a large section of the midwest and northeast. As a professional 501c3 rescue organization we collaborate with volunteers, fosters, animal welfare partners, and shelters to rescue animals in need and place them in our temporary foster care. We place a high priority on the quality of care, including both medical and behavioral support, for all of our animals. We also value and honor the contributions of the hundreds of wonderful people and organizations who support Louie’s Legacy in our lifesaving work.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR ADOPTION EVENTS!
Adoption event times and locations: https://www.louieslegacy.org/news-and-events/new-york-adoption-events
We are seeking new volunteers in all locations and considering expanding to other stores!
The health and safety of Louie’s Legacy’s volunteers, staff, adopters and the community at large is of paramount importance to us. In an effort to do our part to limit any potential exposure to or transmission of illness, Louie’s Legacy will be canceling our regularly scheduled public adoption events until further notice. We will reevaluate according to the recommendations of the CDC and federal, state and local governments and resume regularly scheduled public events at a time when it is deemed safe.
Louie’s Legacy will continue conducting pet adoptions and foster homes will continue to be needed weekly! We are fully operational remotely and our commitment to animal welfare remains the same. Adoptions will be conducted under modified circumstances during this time, so please continue to apply to foster and adopt pets, as the need for animal rescue is always present. Our volunteers will work with approved adopters to schedule an in-person meet and greet with social distancing in mind.
We are so thankful to you, our rescue community, for your understanding and support of each other during this time!
To adopt a pet, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt
All of our dogs come spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations, including rabies (if age appropriate) and bordetella, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. Please note that our pets come from shelters, so we CANNOT guarantee age, breed, mix of breeds, or adult size.
For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home.
An application does not obligate you to adopt, and can be transferred to any pet. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the dog you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call ASAP.
We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where dogs can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting a dog in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
Thanks so much for caring about a needy animal!
