Our Mission

Founded in 1905, the SPCA in Cattaraugus County is a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization dedicated to saving lives and strengthening the human–animal bond. For more than a century, we have served as a trusted resource for homeless, neglected, and at-risk animals throughout our community. As the largest animal shelter in New York’s Southern Tier, we operate on an 11-acre campus that has been home to our organization since 1984—providing the space, care, and compassion needed to give animals a second chance. Every animal that comes through our doors receives care, dignity, and the opportunity for a better life. From rescue to adoption, our focus is simple: help animals heal, find loving homes, and become part of families where they can thrive.

Adoption Policy

Adopting an animal is an exciting and meaningful decision, and we’re here to help you find a great match. We encourage adopters to spend time getting to know the animals, ask questions, and explore which pet best fits your lifestyle and home. Our staff is always happy to talk through personality, activity level, and care needs—whether that happens during a shelter visit or through online browsing. Our goal is simple: a happy transition for both you and your new companion.
