Our Mission

Heartland Avian Rescue Project (HARP) is a collaborative effort to help companion parrots find a forever home through a surrender, foster, and adoption program. Through our network of loving foster homes, parrots in need find a soft landing spot. We then work to place them in an appropriate adoptive home that will love and cherish them. HARP is dedicated to educating all bird guardians in updated research and practices, and offers a safe space to ask questions, learn from and teach others.

We are an incorporated 501(c)3 in the state of Nebraska.

Adoption Policy

Heartland Avian Rescue Project serves the Omaha metro area, including Lincoln, Nebraska and Council Bluffs, Iowa, and the immediate surrounding areas. We adopt birds to households within 100 driving miles of Omaha (using major roads and highways), and require an in-person home visit and at least one visit with the bird in its foster home before the adoption is finalized. The first step is to fill out an adoption application.
