Scotland County Humane Society
Our Mission
We are a very small open admission shelter in our county who highly promotes spay/neuter in the community to help combat the overpopulation. We have few local adoptions so we work closely with local and nationwide rescue groups. Being open admission, space is ALWAYS an issue at the shelter and unless we have an approved application waiting, we are networking our animals immediately for rescue placement to save their lives. If you are unable to adopt, consider fostering to save a life.
Adoption Policy
Always check our website www.scotlandhumane.org for adoptable cats and dogs also! The first step on our adoption process is to complete an online application through our website. We will check your references, including landlord approval and your veterinarian. All current animals in the home must be spayed or neutered if old enough. We may schedule a home visit. We will notify you if your application is approved, denied or incomplete. If approved, we will work with you to find the best match from our available animals for your lifestyle. If we do not find a good match, we will add you to our waiting list and notify you when a perfect match becomes available. Please answer all questions on the application, or we will be unable to process your application until it is complete. Typically, you will not see small dogs or puppies listed as we have a waiting list. Dog adoption fee is $125.00. Cat adoption fee is $75.00. Our available animals are spay/neutered, microchipped, have received initial vaccines, including rabies(if old enough), along with treatment for intestinal worms, fleas and flea prevention.
