Our Mission
Our organization rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes domestic and non-releasable pigeons and doves, while providing lifelong sanctuary for birds with special medical, behavioral, or care needs.
Adoption Policy
Derby City Pigeon Rescue adopts birds only to homes that can provide safe, compassionate, lifelong care. Adopters must provide an appropriately sized, clean, secure cage or aviary; daily fresh food and water; routine cleaning; companionship; and prompt veterinary care when needed. Birds housed indoors must receive daily supervised out-of-cage time in a safe environment.
Free flight or unprotected outdoor time is strictly prohibited, as adopted birds are at significant risk of injury, predation, or becoming lost. Birds may not be sold, bred, raced, used for sport or business purposes, or otherwise exploited.
Adopters are expected to provide a permanent home through life changes, illness, and other challenges. If an adopter can no longer keep their bird, the bird must be returned to Derby City Pigeon Rescue rather than rehomed elsewhere. The rescue reserves the right to inquire about a bird’s welfare and require return of the bird if the adoption agreement is violated.
