Dream & Molokai's Story

LOCATED AT OUR DOVE SHELTER IN BATAVIA, IL.

Hello! We are Dream and Molokai--a married pair of doves!

Molokai is a very charming mottled peach ringneck dove. She is special needs--she has a growth near her vent that has been assessed and found to be of no concern by three separate vets. However, she seems to be predisposed to laying larger-than-average eggs, and the placement of the growth sometimes causes them to be unusually shaped. She is monitored closely around laying time for signs of complications. For this reason, an experienced keeper of doves or other laying birds is preferred, so that we can be assured that you will recognize the signs of egg binding or other complications and address them as needed.

Dream is a Eurasian collared dove, a feral species of dove that can be found in invasive flocks throughout the country. He was brought in for rehab, and because he acclimated so well to life indoors and we were concerned about him being too comfortable with humans to reintegrate into an outdoors flock, he stayed with Derby City Pigeon Rescue as an adoptable. While it's important to note that he is more wild than pet, he is an incredibly confident kiddo, and quite enjoys hanging out with his humans... as long as they respect his boundaries!

Dream and Molokai are not the most human-oriented pair of doves, but their antics are extremely entertaining and they would make a very charming addition to any dove-lover's home!

PLEASE NOTE: Derby City Pigeon Rescue does not "diaper train" our doves or consider our doves to be appropriate for diapers (also known as flypers). If you plan to diaper your bird, we urge you to consider a pigeon for adoption.

Derby City Pigeon Rescue's Adoption Policy
Derby City Pigeon Rescue adopts birds only to homes that can provide safe, compassionate, lifelong care. Adopters must provide an appropriately sized, clean, secure cage or aviary; daily fresh food and water; routine cleaning; companionship; and prompt veterinary care when needed. Birds housed indoors must receive daily supervised out-of-cage time in a safe environment. Free flight or unprotected outdoor time is strictly prohibited, as adopted birds are at significant risk of injury, predation, or becoming lost. Birds may not be sold, bred, raced, used for sport or business purposes, or otherwise exploited. Adopters are expected to provide a permanent home through life changes, illness, and other challenges. If an adopter can no longer keep their bird, the bird must be returned to Derby City Pigeon Rescue rather than rehomed elsewhere. The rescue reserves the right to inquire about a bird’s welfare and require return of the bird if the adoption agreement is violated.
