Our Mission
We are a small, rural shelter with a group of dedicated individuals made up of staff and volunteers that try to meet the needs of each & every homeless pet. We are lucky to have a supportive community that cares about the welfare of animals.

Adoption Policy
SHELTER HOURS OF OPERATION
PETS ARE CURRENTLY SHOWN BY APPOINTMENT ONLY DUE TO STAFFING SHORTAGES.
Sunday-Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 12pm, 1pm, & 2pm.
Please email animal.shelter39@jeffersoncounty.in.gov to schedule to see your new family member. Or call the shelter at 812-273-1788 to set up an appointment.
Closed to the Public on Wednesday and Saturday
ADOPTION FEES INCLUDE PREPAYMENT OF SPAY/NEUTER SURGERY and RABIES VACCINATION. (prices vary by clinic and are now conveniently listed for you at the shelter). SURGERY APPOINTMENTS ARE NOW SCHEDULED AT THE TIME OF YOUR NEW PET'S ADOPTION.
CAT & DOG ADOPTION:
$30 Adoption Fee for Unaltered Animal, plus prepayment of spay/neuter surgery and rabies vaccination.
$45 Adoption Fee for cat already altered, plus rabies vaccination fee-no prepay for surgery.
$55 Adoption Fee for dog already altered, plus rabies vaccination fee-no prepay for surgery.
The Jefferson County Animal Shelter is located in Madison, Indiana. We are approximately 1 hour from Louisville KY, 1 1/2 hours from Cincinnati OH, and 2 hours from Indianapolis IN.
