Our Mission
We are a non-profit group dedicated to the rescue and adoption of surrendered, abandoned, and neglected guinea pigs. Founded in early 2004 by Cindy Kuester, a long-time guinea pig owner, the rescue was created when she realized that abandoned guinea pigs had nowhere to go because larger shelters are not equipped to care for them. Since its opening, the rescue has taken in more than 1,500 abandoned guinea pigs.
Adoption Policy
All adoptions begin with our application, which can be downloaded from our website. Once we receive and review your application, we schedule a phone interview. These phone calls are highly interactive, and give you a chance to share your story about yourself and your home and to ask all the questions you have about guinea pigs and their care. It's not uncommon for us to have multiple members of a household join in on these calls -- and we welcome the participation of children in these calls.
Once we finish the calls, we check the references you provided on your adoption application. We'll notify you when your application has been approved, and start making arrangements for your adoption appointment to pick up your new family members.
Full details of our adoption process are at http://www.ctguineapigrescue.org/adoptions/adoptprocess.
