Our Mission
Animas Valley Animal Rescue is dedicated to the specialized mission of bringing "mountain dogs back to the mountains." We focus our efforts on rescuing Great Pyrenees and other large mountain breeds from high-kill shelters and vulnerable situations in Texas and New Mexico. By transporting these majestic dogs to the high-altitude landscapes they were bred for, we provide them with the space, climate, and active lifestyles they need to thrive.
Our organization is committed to finding permanent, loving homes within the Colorado Rockies, ensuring every rescue transition from "chaos to calm." Through dedicated rehabilitation, community education, and a passion for these gentle giants, we strive to give every mountain dog the chance to find their way home to the peaks.
Adoption Policy
At Animas Valley Animal Rescue, our priority is ensuring that the mountain dogs we rescue from Texas and New Mexico find a stable, permanent home in the Rockies. Adopting from us means committing to a high standard of care for the life of the dog.
Our Core Requirements:
Health & Wellness: Adopters must provide high-quality nutrition, constant access to clean water, and keep the dog fully up to date on all vaccinations.
Living Environment: While these breeds love the outdoors, they must be primarily indoor dogs to stay safe and warm during harsh Colorado winters.
Lifestyle: We expect our dogs to receive plenty of exercise and regular socialization with people and other animals to ensure they remain well-adjusted.
Return Policy: Adopting is a lifelong commitment. However, if for any reason you can no longer keep the dog, they must be returned to Animas Valley Animal Rescue immediately.
Our goal is to ensure every rescue is loved, protected, and truly home.
