Tails of the Unwanted is a 501c3 organization that rescues dogs from high kill shelters on their last adoptable day, often minutes before being killed. Most of the dogs in our program have been rescued from rural shelters in North Carolina. We do not rescue a specific breed of dog, as you can see in our slideshow below. Once a dog comes into our rescue, they are taken to the vet for vaccinations, neutered or spayed and receive a heartworm test. Next they are placed in a foster home until they are adopted. Our dogs are in foster homes in North Carolina, but we are able to transport dogs to other states upon request.
