Our Mission

A Northern California nonprofit founded in 1971, we're a small, but mighty group of volunteers nurturing help, hope, and healing in our community--one animal, one person at a time.

We approach rescue with an open heart, an open mind, and an innovative spirit.

Together, we engage, educate, and empower our community in the fight for our most vulnerable cats and dogs.

Adoption Policy

Apply
To be considered for one of our adoptable animals, you must first submit an application at stfrancisanimal.org. Due to the high volume of applications we receive, we can't guarantee we'll respond to each one. A volunteer will contact you within 72 hours if we think you might be a match.

Meet
Next, we'll set up a speed date with the animal who interests you. We don't have a physical facility -- all our adoptable animals are loved to perfection in foster homes until they make a love connection. We'll work with you to coordinate the details for your meet and greet.

Decide
Adopting an animal is a long term commitment, so we ask that you sleep on it before making a final decision.

Adopt
If our adorable adoptable is "the one" and you're ready to adopt, we'll work with you to finalize the adoption.

We provide you with an adoption packet including medical history, microchip information, and basic info about your pet's care.

We require a tax-deductible adoption fee, which you can pay by cash, check, or PayPal. Your donation helps offset our medical costs. All of our pets are fixed, chipped, vaccinated, de-flead and de-wormed prior to going to their forever homes.

The cost to care for each animal varies depending on its age and health upon intake. If there are any proceeds from your adoption fee, they will be reinvested into helping another at-risk animal.

Finally, we'll have you complete an adoption contract to make it official.
Then, your four-legged friend is ready to come home with you -- forever.
