The Georgina Animal Shelter & Adoption Centre is a facility which provides shelter to all cats and dogs found running at large within the municipal borders of Aurora, Georgina, East Gwillimbury, and Newmarket. Animals that go unclaimed by their owner are assessed, then placed up for adoption if deemed adoptable.

Our shelter utilizes our Facebook page to post all cats and dogs who arrive at the shelter as strays. If you have lost your cat or dog, please visit their website to check for your lost pet and or register your missing cat or dog. Please provide as much detail as possible, including photos.

Register and search for lost and found pets here: http://www.helpinglostpets.com/?rc=o451

It is important to contact the Animal Shelter and Animal Services directly to inform them of your missing or found animals as soon as possible. We encourage people to visit the shelter to look for their lost pet whenever possible, as verbal descriptions of lost pets may not distinguish them from other animals presently in our shelter. After all, no one knows your pets as well as you do! Strays are held for at least 5 business days before being moved to adoption. Ultimately, our goal is to reunite as many lost pets with their owners as possible. We appreciate your assistance and understanding in this matter.

Please be advised that animal licensing is in effect for all municipalities served. Please contact Animal Services for your municipality directly to inquire on how and where to purchase a license. Municipal law requires a license to be purchased each year, failure to purchase can result in additional fines. If you have not yet purchased your yearly license, please do so as soon as possible to help return your pet home safely, avoiding shelter redemption fees and other unwanted fines.

Adoption Policy

Shelter staff strive to find excellent new families for the many homeless cats and dogs that find their way to our shelter. Not all animals entering our shelter have perfect behavior or manners. The majority of the pets we place up for adoption have no known history. We can only assess them by the behavior we see during their stay at our facility. For this reason, we must assess all potential adopters for suitability for the cat or dog in question. We desperately want these animals to have a home that can provide the love and stability they deserve the second time around. We hope the general public will recognize and understand our plight, and appreciate our efforts to help these animals to the best of our abilities. Please feel free to contact our toll free number, 1-800-898-8606, extension 1, then extension 2, if you see a pet you are interested in. We would be more than happy to discuss their personality and needs with any potential new family!

Adopted dogs and cats come vaccinated for Rabies and other core vaccines dependant on their age and length of stay. They will also be microchipped, spayed or neutered, and leave with one dose of flea preventative.

Adoption Fees:

Cats $150 + HST
Dogs $250 + HST
In addition the purchase of a license is required for all dogs being adopted within the municipalities we serve and for cats residing in the town of Newmarket. **Prices vary**
