Our Mission
MAKING FREEDOM HAPPEN ONE DOG AT A TIME
We are dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned dogs, dogs from shelters and taking in desperate owner surrenders when they can no longer care for them.
We do so by working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, and trainers. We are able to rescue dogs in need and provide them with loving temporary care until a well-matched carefully screened "furever home" is found.
Our fosters and volunteers are the heart and soul of Freedom Dog Rescue, and the reason we are able to successfully rescue and adopt out so many deserving dogs. We truly are like a family of friends and in some cases we actually are family and it's just so amazing that we can share our passion together and have so much fun doing it.
Being a foster based rescue means that any dog in care with us is placed in a loving foster home and not in a kennel environment. We strongly believe that they have gone through enough hardship in their lives and all of our foster families are devoted to showing the dogs in our care how to be part of a family and feel loved. We are so appreciative of our foster families who work very hard to give these dogs a second chance at a happy life.
Adoption Policy
All applicants must go through the adoption process as we want to be sure that every adopter is fully aware of a dogs strengths and weaknesses to ensure the perfect match.
It is important to note that Freedom Dog Rescue does not adopt out our dogs on a first-come, first-serve basis. Because we want this to be a permanent adoption, we take great care in placing the dogs in the home that is best suited for him/her, as well as the adoptive family. Every dog is an individual and as such may not fit into every household and the screening process must be completed before we can approve a placement. Freedom Dog Rescue will screen 3 applications at a time and will put a hold on accepting applications until these have been properly screened.
ADOPTION PROCESS
Applicant must fill out an adoption application, which can be emailed.
A Freedom Dog Rescue Adoption Coordinator reviews the application and screens the person to see if they are a good fit. You will receive an email or phone call asking for information such as where the dog will sleep, how long the dog will be left, what your training plans are, how they will be exercised etc. As well as to discuss the dogs behavior, temperament and personality.
We then verify the personal and vet references that you have submitted on your application.
Assuming everything looks good so far, a home visit is scheduled where a Freedom Dog Rescue volunteer comes to your home to assess the environment in which the dog will be living. The home visit is mandatory for any adoption to proceed as it allows us to visit with potential adopters to get a better feel for if the desired dog will fit their lifestyle and activity level. It is part of our commitment to verify and counsel with each potential adopter. When we do the visits we may see something that needs to be addressed that the applicant might not think to mention.
Once the home has been approved, we can schedule a "Meet and Greet" between the dog and the adopters. All membe
