Furry Friends Animal Shelter, Inc.

The Furry Friends Animal Shelter is a non-profit, no-kill organization dedicated to providing shelter and love to abandoned, lost or rescued animals in the Barrie community. We provide care to 500+ cats and kittens each year and have been rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming cats for over 25 years. We are a registered charity funded by generous donors and supporters and operated completely by dedicated volunteers. Rescue: We take in surrenders, strays and hoarded cats, and work with other local animal rescue organizations and people in the community to trap/rescue cats in need. Rehabilitation: At the shelter and in foster homes we provide proper nutrition, essential vaccines, microchips and ensure that all cats and kittens are spayed/neutered. Rehoming: As soon as our furry friends are adoption-ready, we work with adoption partners (PetSmart and Pet Valu) - and our shelter and foster volunteers - to match them with loving families in our community.

Adoption Policy

Our adoption policies ensure cats are placed in safe, loving homes for family companionship, not for breeding or barn purposes. Adopters must agree to keep cats indoors, obtain landlord approval if needed, and have unanimous household agreement. Cats must not be declawed, and adopters must commit to providing long-term care, including a backup plan with family or friends if they are no longer able to care for the cat. Adopters between the ages of 65-70 must adopt a cat that is 5+ years old, and adopters above the age of 70 must adopt a cat that is 10+ years old and have a family member present to co-sign the contract. We believe in these policies because they help ensure the safety, health, and well-being of every cat and promote responsible, lifelong pet ownership.
